The 30-minute structure
This turns practice into a loop: attempt, listen, adjust, repeat.
- Five minutes: listen and count phrases.
- Ten minutes: repeat one transition.
- Ten minutes: record three attempts.
- Five minutes: write one note about what failed.
What to measure
Measure something you can hear: did Track B start on phrase, did the levels match, did the bass get messy, did the energy drop, did the transition feel rushed? Avoid vague notes like "bad mix."
Common mistakes
- Practicing too long after your ears are tired.
- Switching songs every time the mix gets hard.
- Never recording because you do not want to hear mistakes.
Put It Into Practice
Assignment
Do the 30-minute routine three times this week with the same two songs. Your goal is not variety. Your goal is to hear one transition improve.
